SUMMER BEACH CONCERT SERIES
San Clemente Pier and Sand / 6pm-Sunset
Bring your beach chairs or blanket, set your toes in the sand and get ready for an evening of fun. Bands in the Sand are BACK!! Head on down to the beach to enjoy the sounds of music and surf this summer in San Clemente. The Program is free, and features music suitable for the whole family. Fisherman’s Restaurant sponsors a reasonable BBQ dinner served right at the beach front for just $8 per person.
The concerts are held Thursday evenings from 6pm- to Sunset on the North Side of the Pier. First show lined up is on May 20th, featuring San Clemente student jazz bands from San Clemente High School, Shorecliff’s Jr. High, and Bernice Ayer Jr. High.

MARINE SAFETY HOSTED THE ANNUAL LIFEGUARD POSITION TRYOUTS
On February 27th 2016 San Clemente’s Marine Safety Division held their annual tryouts for seasonal ocean lifeguard and lifeguard trainee positions at the Marine Safety Division Headquarters. 38 applicants competed in an approximate 800-yard ocean swim in 13 1/2 minutes or less. Successful candidates then competed in a 1,200-yard run-swim-run with the top candidates interviewing that day to go onto a mandatory 92-hour training program held on weekends in April and May.
JR. LIFEGUARD PROGRAM EXPANDED FOR SUMMER
The San Clemente Marine Safety Division has expanded the popular Jr. Lifeguard Program offered each summer at the beach. This program is dedicated to teaching youth age 9- 17 ocean and beach safety. To accommodate more students, three sessions will now be offered: (June 13- July1) (July 5- July 22), and (July 25-Aug. 12) with both morning and afternoon classes scheduled. Registration for this program is based on availability, with priority given to San Clemente Residents. Swim tests are required for new students and proof of age is required. Register for one of the swim tests www.san-clemente.org/JG . Swim tests will be conducted on:
Saturdays from 9am-10am on April 9, April 16, April 23, and April 30
Tuesdays from 6:30pm-7:30pm on April 19th and April 26
Thursdays from 6:30pm -7:30pm on April 21 an April 28
Priority Registration begins May 4th for San Clemente Residents,
Open Registration begins on May 16-30th

Over 300 Spring Classes
Spring is in full swing in San Clemente with so many classes and workshops offered at the Community Center, Aquatic Center and many offsite locations. Choose an old favorite like children’s dance classes, or adult yoga, check out our swim center at Vista Hermosa Sports Park for a variety of swim lessons or, get active in the many fitness or sports opportunity to make new friends and stay active. This program is hosted out of Dana Point Harbor.
SUMMER CAMPS ARE JUST AROUND THE CORNER
Get our child enrolled soon in one of our many popular Summer Camps. The City offers both full day and half day camps, with various themes for all age groups from Mad Science, to Gymnastics, to Cooking or Theatre, Surfing, Beach, Tennis and Skateboarding – plus many-many more!. Back in high demand is the City Active Adventures, for 6-13 year olds. This camp is hosted at the City Aquatic Center offering action packed activities (sports, swimming, arts, outdoor games and weekly excursions to really fun places. These camps are offered all summer long, on Monday-Friday beginning June 13-through August 12 from 8am-5pm. Registration fills up quickly due to Early Bird Registration discounts. The Recreation Division will host the Summer Camp Palooza on April 30th from 12-4pm. This is a free expo of many of the City camps, and summer classes they offer. Meet the instructors, find out new things your child can do this summer. Participants will be invited to swim after visiting.
